Parenting Quote

"You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist."

                             --Friedrich Nietzsche

This quote talks about how everyone can have their own way of doing things. No one way is the “correct” way. Just because someone does something differently than you would, doesn’t make him or her wrong! Their way is simply different. It is the same with your children. I know you want your children to learn from your mistakes. You want to save them from pain.

You want them to do what you say because you are older, more experienced and hopefully wiser. However, the world does not work that way. You probably didn’t learn the stove was hot from someone telling you it was hot. You most likely had to feel for yourself.

The same is true for your children. When you can give your children the gift of doing things their own way without criticism, it is an incredibly powerful thing.

Relationship Quote

"The most important thing in any relationship is not what you get but what you give."
                         -- Elenore
Roosevelt

This quote supports the work we do in the negotiation process with couples. Each person describes what is wrong with their relationship and then they are asked what is right with the relationship. The next question is, "If you could do something different all this week that would be a gift and a help to your relationship, what would you give?" It's not about getting what you want. It's not about coercing your partner to give you what you want. It's a simple gift that you give, from the heart without strings or expectiations. This is what makes it so powerful. Take our home study course called "Relationships from the Inside Out" and learn more about this powerful process.

Quote: Love is. . .

“Love is the selfless promotion of the growth of another.” --Unknown

This is a quote I love because it covers all types of love--the love of a friend, the love of a child or the love of your life partner. Think about what it actually means. "Love is the selfless promotion of the growth of another." It shouldn’t matter what your desires are as long as the one you love is growing in the direction he/she wants to go; then you support him/her.

This takes a great deal of strength and clarity of your own self. A person who can love another person this way is rich in many ways. When you stop trying to control the ones you love to do the things that would be best for you, then their love for you will likely increase.

Conversely, this type of love can free you to understand that it is your own responsibility to move your own life in the direction you want to go. This type of love is rare, precious and a true gift. Are you giving this gift to the ones you love?

Empowerment Quote

“You can’t change the direction of the wind but you can adjust your sails.”---Jimmy Dean

This is the motto of  “Inside Out Thinking” and states the essence of our slogan, “Unleash the power within you.” What it is saying is that things happen to all of us in our lives that may cause us to veer off course. Bad things happen to good people all the time. Unexpected things crop up, loved ones get sick, children go off to war, we lose our jobs, our investments fail, our relationships end and a myriad of other things. Most of these things are like the wind. You don’t have control over these things anymore than you can control the direction the wind blows. However, when you unleash your internal power, what you do is adjust your sails to maximize the opportunities presented in the direction of the wind. Focus on the things you CAN control, which is your own thoughts and behaviors. In every circumstance, if you look hard enough, you can find some benefit or advantage to the situation. Focusing on that advantage can really help you get through the tough times. That is what "Inside Out Empowerment" is all about. Stay tuned to future issues.
