Doesn’t that sound easy? It really is one of the easiest/hardest things you’ll ever do. It will be easy because you’ll be doing what you love, fulfilling your life’s purpose. You’ll know you’re doing this when you can honestly say, “I love what I do–I would do it for free! Aren’t I fortunate that people are willing to pay me to do what I love?”

It will be hard because you may need to do some things that will take you out of your comfort zone–maybe marketing, maybe public speaking, maybe research, maybe time management, maybe organization. Whatever your challenge, you MUST find a way to conquer it so you can go on to be the person you were meant to be, serving the people you were meant to serve.

Dr. Hawkins makes this point in his book, Power vs. Force. He is saying that it isn’t enough to copy what successful people do. You really have to become like they are in full integration. Your acting, thinking, emotions and spirituality must be aligned in order for you to enjoy the same level of success. Studying successful people is a great way to get started but understand that there is much more to a person than the simple tasks you can see him or her perform. Get the big picture and go about beginning the transformation.

Automation in marketing is a key component, particularly on the Internet. It is important to keep your name in front of your prospects but to do so in a helpful, rather than an obnoxious, way. You must believe in your product and know that your product will help people. When you think of your marketing activities as helping others, rather than trying to “sell” something, your attitude will win over customers.

Going over and over the past or staying stuck in yesterday does not empower anyone. History has already been written. No matter how many times we revisit it, it will not change. Bad things happen to good people. Staying focused on the inequity of it will only frustrate a person.

What's important are the decisions we make today for no one has the right to make them for us. The past may have been awful but each individual is responsible for choices he or she makes today which will in turn, shape the futures we create. Take responsibility and get busy making the choices that will create the future you want.

Do you know most people ignore their unhappiness? They think it will go away. They believe things will get better if they just hang in there long enough. Sometimes, some people use alcohol or other drugs to numb the pain. Well, I don’t believe that things miraculously get better on their own. I believe you have to DO SOMETHING to get a different outcome. If you keep doing what you’ve always done you are going to get what you’ve always got. If you are experiencing a mild degree of dissatisfaction, you can probably live with that. But why would you want to? Things can be better. Let me show you a better, an easier way. Think about taking the workshop in Choice Theory. You won’t regret it.

Dr. Glasser is referring to students in school. He believes there is a lot of external control in school which he defines as one person trying to get another person to do something he or she doesn’t want to do. Students are being asked to learn things that have no practical application for them. Students are being punished with failing or inadequate grades for not learning the required material. Students are being punished for conduct that is deemed detrimental to the school environment. Even many teachers feel the external control from administrators, the state and NCLB legislation. School is a place often filled with external control. However, students don’t resist a connection or relationship with each other or with their teachers, nor do they resist useful, meaningful learning. When we can figure out a way to connect with our students and to make the required learning interesting and applicable, then the discipline problems will all but disappear in school.

This quote just accentuates the importance of having dreams. If you aren’t working toward making your dreams a reality, then you probably feel as if you aren’t really going anywhere. You are definitely not going in the direction you want to go so you may feel as if you have no wings. You cannot soar while attempting to live someone else’s dream. What is your dream? Teamwork Quote

One of the things that gets in the way of good teamwork is individual egos. People have often been programmed not to do their personal best but to strive to be better than anyone else. When this is the case, a person will go to extraordinary measures to appear to be the best. A person might cheat, lie or unfairly compete in order to be perceived as “the best”. As you can imagine, this is not something that enhances teamwork.

As the quote says, when we attempt to keep someone else down in an attempt to make ourselves look better, then we cannot be our best since we have to be “down there” to hold the other person down. The better approach is to develop a team attitude and decide what’s your best contribution to benefit the mission and vision of the team.

Book Review

De-Escalation Skills Quote

"Any person capable of angering you becomes your master; he can anger you only when you permit yourself to be disturbed by him."

This quote speaks to this week’s theme on managing anger/de-escalation skills. It addresses giving away one’s personal power to another person by not staying grounded and calm when attacked. Whenever we give another person the power to manipulate our emotions, we lose our own internal power. When you tap into the store of power within you, then no one can shake you from your path. If you choose to be happy or at peace, then you will be regardless of what’s going on around you.

Quote on Goal Setting

"If you want to do anything you find a way. If you don't want to do anything you find an excuse." –unknown

This quote is self-explanatory. If you really want to do something, you figure out a way to do it. Can you remember something in your life that was so important to you, you thought you’d just die if you didn’t get it or get to do it? I’d be willing to bet that you did whatever was necessary to make it happen. Do you remember the true story of Carl Brashear, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. in Men of Honor? If you didn’t see the movie, I don’t want to spoil it for you but Brashear provides a living example of doing whatever it takes to achieve one’s goal. When you don’t want to do something, it’s easy to find an excuse.

What is your predominant mode of going through life? Are you doing whatever it takes to accomplish your goals or are you basically coasting through life, making excuses for why you aren’t doing what you need to do? If you answered the latter, what would it take to move you into the former category? Do you think a coach might help?
